JOB DESCRIPTION

Role:                    Head of Information Technology

Reports to:          Chief Executive

Duty Station:       Kampala, Uganda

JOB SUMMARY:

The Head of Information Technology will be responsible for overseeing Information Technology functions in the company. The job holder will be responsible for leading the IT team in ensuring IT systems are effective and functioning within the limits of budget, time, and specifications of the company.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Oversee all technology operations and evaluate them according to established goals and standards.
  2. Devise and establish IT policies and systems to support the implementation of strategies set by upper management.
  3. Analyse the business requirements of all departments to determine their technology needs.
  4. Purchase efficient and cost-effective technological equipment and software
  5. Inspect the use of technological equipment and software to ensure functionality and efficiency
  6. Identify the need for upgrades, configurations or new systems and report to management
  7. Coordinate, supervise and guide employees in their roles.
  8. Control budget and report on expenditure
  9. Assist in building relationships with vendors and creating cost-efficient contracts
  10. Discover and implement new technologies that yield competitive advantage
  11. Supervise system infrastructure to ensure functionality and efficiency
  12. Build quality assurance and data protection processes
  13. Document all IT processes and regularly update them to ensure they remain relevant
  14. Monitor KPIs and IT budgets to assess technological performance
  15. Use stakeholders’ feedback to inform necessary improvements and adjustments to technology
  16. Plan disaster recovery drills and strategies
  17. Communicate technology strategy to the board, management, and key stakeholders as applicable.

KEY COMPETENCIES AND ATTRIBUTES

  1. Proven experience as a HOIT or similar leadership role
  2. Knowledge of technological trends to build strategy
  3. Understanding of budgets and business-planning
  4. Experience in analysis, implementation and evaluation of IT systems and their specifications
  5. Excellent communication skills
  6. Excellent leadership and organizational skills
  7. Strategic thinking
  8. Problem-solving aptitude
  9. Sound understanding of computer systems (hardware/software),Data warehousing, architecture and networking
  10. Knowledge of cloud platforms and technologies
  11. Experience with business operations platforms
  12. Good customer service ethics
  13. Ability to motivate and generate high quality results from the IT team

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  1. BSc/BA degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related field; MSc/MA will be a plus
  2. A minimum of 5 years of relevant working experience in a reputable organisation with a demonstrated track record in business development, sales, or a related role.
  3. Possess a good understanding of the local and regional financial services market.
